10 Stand Out Travel Bloggers

Sometimes it can be daunting to go away to a new place for the first time without any local knowledge and without knowing the best places to go when you get there. So to help you find out those travel titbits, First Choice have selected their favourite 10 stand out travel bloggers for 2011, to help you plan your trip and to give you the low-down of your holiday destinations – and we would like you to choose your favourite:


1. Have a lovely time!
A blog dedicated to family holidays, activities and entertainment. If you’re travelling with kids, it’s a must read with tips and advice for making the most of your family holiday.
2. Europe Up Close
Terri Fogarty and Mike Coletta are experienced travellers and veterans of Europe and have been sharing their extensive knowledge and their passion for travel on their blog since 2006. Their posts vary from itinerary planning tips, advice for travelling on a budget and sharing the undiscovered travel gems that you don’t get in the guidebooks, all shown with their own fantastic photos.
3. Dani Stein
Dani runs a photography and web design business on Lanzarote and he’s posted many of his stunning photographs on his blog.  See different perspectives of Lanzarote through his images including a post about the birth of some 80 sea turtles on the beach in Fuerteventura; and the amazing salt flats or Salinas.
4. Dan’s Adventure
In 2009, Dan was an unseasoned traveller, with only one trip outside of Europe. That changed when he decided to drop everything and set off around the world. His travels have taken him through Africa, Asia, Oceania, South America and North America and he’s documented it all on his blog.
5. Isle of Tenerife
Great pictures, a real mix of topics and all about the beautiful island of Tenerife.  Articles stretching back to 2007 covering diverse subjects from Tenerife festivals through local food and beach reviews.  Check out the ‘photo blog’ category for some fantastic and exclusive pictures.
6. Emma’s House in Portugal
You’ll get two for one with this blog: learn about Emma’s challenges in buying an old house and renovating it; and also her take on the beautiful Portuguese countryside, palaces, abandoned villages, river  beaches and surfing.  Emma is a star photographer and the blog has hundreds of photos on it.
7. Beers and Beans
A blog about the adventures of a Randy – a journalist, and Beth – a photographer, as they travel the world. Features include travel tips, gear reviews and spectacular photos of their travels.
8. Runaway Jane
Four years ago Jane, a salesperson from Scotland bought a ticket to Australia on the spur of the moment and caught the travel bug. She now travels round Europe, blogging about her travels providing tips, insight and advice with occasional guest bloggers.
9. Europe A La Carte
With a focus on travelling in Europe, Europe A La Carte blogs about the best places to travel on the continent. Posts range from top 10s covering the best beaches and hotels. to in-depth hotel and resort reviews.
10. Wild Junket
Freelance travel writer Nellie Huang from Singapore says is an adventure-seeker and obsessed with languages and cultural exchange which she shows in her blog. Nellie blogs about her adventures around the world including travel tips, quirky posts and offbeat travel.
