We’ve lifted the blanket off five places around the world that are still hot in the last month of the year. Think everywhere from Barbados, to Gran Canaria, and Mexico, to list a few. Keep scrolling to find out where you’ll go next…

Average temperature in Barbados in December: 25°
High temperature in Barbados in December: 30°

Thanks to its ideal position in the Caribbean, Barbados stays toasty warm all year round. In fact, temperatures tend to hover in the mid to high 20s, although the mercury can top 30 at times. Don’t worry, though, trade winds stop things from getting too scorching, so you’ll still be able to chill out at the beach without feeling uncomfortable. Speaking of beaches, Barbados is home to some of the best on earth. We’re talking white sands, bright-blue waters, and those tell-tale coconut palms, making it one of the most luxurious destinations to visit this winter. And don’t be surprised if you catch a glimpse of A-List celebs, like Rihanna, relaxing on the same belt of sand as you…

    Cape Verde

Average temperature in Cape Verde in December: 25°
High temperature in Cape Verde in December: 26°

Winter blues got you dreaming of a tropical escape? If you’re nodding, Cape Verde’s the ideal choice. These 10 gorgeous islands boast sunny highs of 26 degrees in December, and because the landscape is so flat, there’ll be just enough wind to keep the humidity at bay. Plus, water babies will feel right at home on holiday here. Cape Verde is known as the kitesurfing capital of the world, thanks to large swells from the surrounding Atlantic Ocean, so it’s the perfect excuse to grab a board and take to the waves.

Average temperature in Lanzarote in December: 16°
High temperature in Lanzarote in December: 22°

You know you’re in for a treat weather-wise on a holiday to Lanzarote – it’s on the same latitude line as Florida and the Bahamas. Plus, temperatures don’t tend to dip under 16˚C in December, so it’s the perfect excuse to get outside and explore what the island has to offer. And if beach dwelling is your thing, look no further than the resort of Costa Teguise. This place is famed for its five sandy beaches, which all sidle up to a café-lined promenade. You can bet there’s one to suit every type of traveller, too. Take family-friendly Playa del Jablillo, for example, which is protected from the island’s breeze and has calm, shallow waters. Are you a fan of windsurfing? If you’re nodding, Playa Cucharas is basically heaven on earth for catching those waves. There’s also Playa Bastian with its exotic palms, which is well, perfect for those Instagram shots.

    Gran Canaria

Average temperature in Gran Canaria in December: 16°
High temperature in Gran Canaria in December: 22°

Gran Canaria gets our tick of approval when it comes to sun-seeking in December, thanks to its close-to-Africa setting. The mercury rarely falls below 16 degrees, so you’ll still have a chance to top up your tan from the summer. And although this is the smallest of the Canary Islands, you can still pack in loads of action-packed activities. There’s everything from watersports, like jet-skiing, windsurfing and parasailing, to hiking Pico de las Nieves (the tallest mountain on the island), and you can make tracks for the buzzing capital city of Las Palmas, which is famous for its gorgeous 15th-century cathedral, huge spread of cafés and shops, and its Instagram-worthy, pastel-coloured neighbourhoods. Holiday goals, achieved.

Average temperature in Mexico in December: 20°
High temperature in Mexico in December: 24°

Need an extra dose of vitamin D this winter? We recommend visiting Mexico. Temperatures here sit at a sizzling 20 degrees in December, so you can celebrate Christmas Day with your nearest and dearest on the beach with a margarita in hand. What’s more, if you visit the resort of Puerto Vallarta between December and February, you’ll get the chance to spot humpback whales return back from their summer feeding grounds on the Pacific coast. Also, the winter months are classed as mating season – so you may catch a glimpse of these friendly giants breaching out of the water.
