Thinking of booking an autumn escape? We don’t blame you. The clocks go back on Sunday 29th October, after all. So, whether you’re already getting summer blues (before it’s even begun), or you’re just itching for a holiday to break up the cold, dark nights, we promise a sun-kissed break is within easy reach. Check out these five destinations where the temperatures are still sky high in October…
Average temperature in Morocco in October: 22°C
High temperature in Morocco in October: 29°C
Morocco really does have a lot to shout about. Souks, spices, and snake charmers are just a few of those things. And the chances are you’ve probably seen the culture-filled country all over your Instagram feed, thanks to its picture-perfect markets, mosques, palaces and flower-filled gardens. So, to help reduce your risk of holiday FOMO, we’re pleased to let you know that there are plenty of reasons to visit Morocco in October. And with temperatures hitting up to 29 degrees in October, your Vitamin D fix will be sorted until – and after – the sun (fingers crossed) appears in the UK. Even better, Morocco is just a four-hour hop from the UK, so you’ll be there as quick as a wink.
Marrakech was voted one of the best places to visit in 2017. Think blush-coloured buildings, a bustling market scene and a whole load of quirky places to wine and dine. If you visit in October, though, you might be one of the first visitors to step through the doors of the highly anticipated Yves Saint Laurent Museum. The gallery is dedicated to the late French fashion designer, and is based in Marrakech’s star attraction, Jardin Majorelle. It’s marked by stacks of cacti (the plant-of-the-moment, in case you didn’t already know) and dreamy sapphire-blue buildings. No filter needed.
Average temperature in Turkey in October: 25°C
High temperature in Turkey in October: 27°C
Turkey welcomes more than 35 million holidaymakers each year, so it’s no wonder it’s one of the top destinations to visit. Here, you can relax on other-worldly sands, take in the smells of spice-scented bazaars, and explore ancient ruins, to name a few. Plus, thanks to its juxta position in the Aegean Sea, sunny days aren’t hard to come by. If you decide to visit in October, for example, you can look forward to high temperatures of 27 degrees – perfect for topping up that summer tan which is beginning to fade. Away from the sand and sea, though, there’s more than just a few things to do and see. Take Antalya, which is famous for its jaw-dropping waterfalls and age-old ruins. Or, make tracks for Bodrum, where days are spent visiting palaces and shopping at the stylish marinas.
Average temperature in Cape Verde in October: 26°C
High temperature in Cape Verde in October: 28°C
Fancy somewhere more far-flung this autumn? We think the Cape Verde islands are the ideal choice. You’ll find them anchored 500 kilometres off the coast of Senegal, so they really ooze castaway vibes. The average temperature totals 26 degrees in October, so it’s the ideal place to get your dose of autumn sun. Plus, a cool breeze from the Sahara keeps things comfortable in the hotter months, and rainfall is a real rarity. This place isn’t just about heavenly swathes of sand and bright-blue sea, though. In the seaside resort of Sal, you can expect brightly-coloured shops, surf shacks and tonnes of restaurants to pick from. Elsewhere, you can relax in salt baths at the Pedra de Lume crater, zoom across the Mars-like landscapes by quad bike, or you can catch a glimpse of Sal’s underwater world, where turtles, trumpet fish and manta rays are all regular visitors to the island’s off-shore caves and reefs.
Average temperature in Mexico in October: 24°C
High temperature in Mexico in October: 27°C
It’s not hard to see why Mexico is a holidaymaker’s favourite destination. Trips to the cactus state give you access to hidden beaches, the world-famous Mayan ruins, and bright-green mountains, so it’s ideal for beach dwellers and culture-vultures alike. And because Mexico boasts year-round sunshine, it’s one of the best places to visit in October. During this time of year, the temperatures can soar up to 27 degrees, so it’s super sunny. We think one of the top places to escape the crowds is in Riviera Maya. This place is renowned for its gorgeous beaches, reef diving spots and chilled-out Mayan culture – so it’s ideal for those who want to relax and get back to nature. Alternatively, if you’re a bit of a party animal, why not hit the world-class cocktail bars in Cancun? Four million partygoers flock here each year, so its clubbing credentials are as good as it gets. If you fancy partying like a local, head Downtown where flamenco dancing and cabaret shows are on the agenda. Or, make tracks for the Hotel Zone if super-clubs with huge dancefloors sound like your thing.
Average temperature in Aruba in October: 28°C
High temperature in Aruba in October: 32°C
Aruba gets top marks for its year-round sunshine. In October, the temperature reaches up to 32 degrees, and due to its position outside the Caribbean’s hurricane belt, storms are extremely rare. It’s the award-winning beaches that keep bringing holidaymakers back for another taste, though. Eagle Beach made it into the top three on TripAdvisor’s 2017 poll of the world’s best beaches. We think it’s a real life paradise – you can expect turquoise-coloured waters that are perfect for snorkelling, powder-soft sands, and world-famous divi-divi trees (seriously, Google them). Aside from sand and sea, you have to tick off Arikok National Park. This nature reserve swallows up almost 20 per cent of the entire island, playing host to natural pools, caves, and wildlife like fruit bats, wild donkeys, and a variety of lizards and iguanas. Plus, did we mention Aruba is the home of the pink flamingo? If that’s not a good enough reason to book, we don’t know what is…
